Friday the 15th

After I went swimming, Leslie, Emma Rose and I went to Akaka Falls this morning. There's a loop trail you hike, through beautiful rainforest and to see two amazing waterfalls. Emma Rose pretty much hopped and jumped the whole thing. She jumped UP the stone steps all along the way.
Then we headed for town, via the scenic route. Beautiful. Emma Rose gathered up "treasures" for Nanny everywhere we stopped -- rocks, leaves, sticks. In town, we got Subway sandwiches and iced coffees and had a really nice picnic on one of the bridges at Lili‘uokalani Gardens. That was so nice.

Then back home, where their friend Nanny stopped by. She'd recently read the blog and learned about Hau‘oli, and she brought tons of blankets and waterproof pads to use on her dog bed. Nanny works at the hospital's sewing room (who knew?) where they repair linens and such, and, it turns out, where old ones are saved for people's dogs! Leslie took a picture of me, Emma Rose and Nanny together. Emma Rose pointed out that we have similar coloring and hair. She sometimes calls Jodie "Aunty Nanny" to be funny.

This evening, we went up to Volcano to Jason Scott Lee's theatre. He has a property up there and a small theatre and was putting on the production Kamau. It was AMAZING. What an incredible story, and also incredible performances. Really, really good. It was a powerful story with a lot of emotional content and by the end, we were wrung out. There was a lot of Hawaiian culture, issues, controversies, history and comedy in that play.
