We are sitting in LAX waiting for our plane when I notice these two knuckleheads doing their yoga in the line to board. Not over to the side being spectacles quietly. In everyones way. Doing every kind of yoga. There were gawkers.
We up and decided to go to New Orleans for the weekend. We haven’t had a proper vacation this year, which we were kind of getting used to these last four years. We took a long weekend when the kids didn't have classes and we could take some time off on each side of Labor Day. That sounds like fun, doesn't it? We’d piled up a lot of miles with our UAL Visa card, so we booked a weekend in New Orleans. And a rental car. And a room at the
Place d’Armes Hotel in the the French Quarter. We were here two years ago just for the night and decided that we always wanted to come back for a weekend.

This is what our room liked. Very gloomy and cool located in an old school building, actually the first school building in New Orleans. We went on a ghost tour when we were here last year and left Katie in the room because she was kind of afraid to go. They guy was telling us a very scary story about little girls found standing next to people's beds in the middle of the night. The girls are ghosts of the little girls who died inside the school house in a city-wide fire that night. We did NOT tell Katie what we learned on the tour until long afterwards.

Upon arrival to the hotel we are told we are being evacuated on Sunday at 11 a.m. So we will find a new place to stay, 100 or so miles away, for Sunday and Monday nights. Whaddya gonna do? We bought a bunch of water bottles and put them in the rent-a-car because that seems to be a popular item selling at the grocery store. All the French Quarter is still open, except they closed the state museums, which is a bummer because it’s only Friday and the hurricane is not supposed to land until Monday.
This is the courtyard in the middle of the 5 buildings that make up our hotel It has a beautiful little pool and lots of tables and chairs to sit at.
I'm laying in the bed trying to find a new place to stay outside of the evacuation area. I'm hoping all the other vacationers are drunker than me and I will figure it out way better then them. Just now I hung up the phone with UAL and they said to go ahead and stay in New Orleans until Tuesday. We don't have a place to stay, but we have to come back to fly out of NOLA (New Orleans) because we flew on our Mileage Plus Miles, would have had to use an airport within 100 miles, but there isn’t one and so we have to fly out on Tuesday. But that won’t be a big deal, we’ll just drive back in Tuesday morning.
