Georgie's Chicken House Tuesday the 12th

Although I'm absolutely invited to stay at Leslie and Macario's house, I haven't ever been on vacation all alone before. I thought I would get an apartment with a kitchen behind someone's house. I know I will have so much fun at Leslie's and visit until I drive away, so I think some quiet time which will be a bonus to the reason I'm here.
Well, I found a house on this post: HAMAKUA Retreat on 20 Acres  Georgie lives inside with cats and dogs, the chickies live outside. She parks outside because the garage is solidly filled with baking supplies. racks, trays, tables and sinks.
Turns out I've rented the second story of the house. It's a huge room, a lot like the upstairs at my mom and dad's house, with a giant comfy bed, a lovely lounge chair, tables, a big dresser and a giant walk-in closet. The bathroom is amazingly large with a huge jacuzzi tub and a fancy shower with a dozen shower heads. There are enormous open windows on all four sides of the house.
I get up to the house by a big staircase that's right next to where I park and it takes me to a lanai that wraps around two sides of the second story. Now on one side of the lanai is the advertised kitchenette. This consists of a plastic table with a toaster, microwave, hotplate and pots and utensils. This is all covered with a plastic tablecloth. Next to it is two small fridges - one working, one not - used for food storage.
Macario came by yesterday and picked up the key, so I didn't meet Georgie until this morning.

I went for snorkeling at Richardson's Beach (they have lifeguards) first thing this morning (Georgie was gone) and afterwards, when I was getting out of the shower, there was a knock on the door at the stairs that connects my room to the first floor of the house. It was Georgie telling me that she will be busy today so she can't visit with me. She has to rescue 800 chickens from a farm where they are going to turn off the electricity. Or maybe not chickens. Shickies is the word she used. Shickies. She has 600 shickies left to go. She thought she had til October, but she only has this week. Then she handed me a warm, whole egg and said, "This is from one of the chickens, it just laid it. Did you bring oil?" (what did she say? Did she say oil?) I panicked. "Yes, I have oil." (isn't that on your list of vacation items? Wesson or Pam?) She seemed satisfied and said she would try to see me again at the end of the week." And with that, she shut the door. And, now, I have one hot egg in hand. I should have put it in my refrigerator, but Georgie might see it so I took it to Leslie's house to show her. But after having it in my hot purple car all day driving around Hilo, I just put it straight in the compost pile. Oh, and Georgie has two decorated Christmas trees set up in her house. I didn't ask.

After a nice morning visiting with the egg and getting all my stuff together, I headed out to Leslie's house for lunch. When I got there Macario was visiting with a friend of his. They had just finished making a big jar of liliko'i juice and it was delicious. I drank it all week. That and water.
Leslie was just finishing some sandwiches for us and we were heading out to take their old dog Hauoli to the vet. She got hit by a car last week and her tummy was getting bigger and bigger. I agreed we had no choice. The vet says now it also looks like spinal cord damage -- but recoverable. After much examination and treatments to the dog (during which time Mac came by the vet's office with Emma Rose), we came home and Macario went to the sewing machine and made a sling-type thing with seatbelt-looking webbing. They will slip it under her and then hold the handles to help support her on her feet.
After the vet excitement, we settled Hau'oli back in her bed and we all went to Ocean Sushi. It was so super delicious. I have been looking forward to this for a long time. It was all that I'd hoped for. Leslie and I even did the same sushi dance. Mac gave me some of his oxtail from his soup and it was really good.
Afterward, we were all stuffed and went for a walk around downtown. We were walking by the Emerald Orchid when I guy leaned out of the window and yelled hello to Macario. The four of us went in listened to them play for a while.

We stayed up late talking, we'll have a lot of that to do. I've fallen out of touch with a lot of people I knew at West.
Leslie seems to know where most of them are, or at least how to find out about them.

I drove home in my purple car on the dark dark road. Georgie wasn't home yet and I parked and walked up the stairs to my house. The moon was full and I could see everything by moonlight, but no other lights were on. Macario had give me a flashlight the night before (he's safety man) and I had that on plus my hand out in front of me.  The only thing I'm REALLY afraid of is spiderwebs and bugs. But when I got in my house and had my lights on, I felt safe in there. There aren't any curtains on any of the windows, so it felt weird to change clothes, so I went in the bathroom where there was only a little light, but still open windows.
I climbed into my big white comfy bed (where I enjoyed internet access for my laptop and my phone), laid down and went to sleep. What a day. The rain is falling on the roof and I can smell the ginger Leslie cut for my room.
